The Three Best Ways to Make RV Travel Less Stressful

February 14, 2026

Everyone goes on an RV trip for the freedom to explore and travel. But oftentimes it can get very stressful when unexpected problems arise. From super long driving days to last minute reservation changes, there is a lot of planning that goes into it. But with a good tips and preparations, your next trip can go on without a hitch!

Lets talk about three ways that you can plan in advance, learn to go with the flow of RV travel, and overall make your traveling easier.

1. Plan Your Route Ahead of Time and Secure Key Locations

Typically, before starting and RV trip you sit down, look at the map and decide on the locations you want to go. But do you go in deeper and look at campgrounds, reviews, things to do in the area? Taking that little bit of extra time will ensure that you hit the key locations you want and aren’t just driving into an area with no secure plans. It can even reduce driving time by planning stops in an appropriate manner.

But along with that, one of the biggest things to remember is to keep a little bit of flexibility in your schedule as well. When you know in advance that events can change or maybe you just want to spend a little more time on that beautiful hike, and that’s okay! You have your set locations and you know when you need to be at your key locations, but within that be flexible and take the time to explore those new areas.

2. Check and Prep Your RV Months, Weeks, and Days in Advance.

Doing a full RV inspection before your trip is pretty typical for RV owners. But sometimes pushing that check to the last minute can leave you in situations where you don’t have enough time to fix what is needed. So schedule out your RV checks; inspect the tires and brakes a month in advance, your tires two weeks in advance, your fluids a few days in advance. Give yourself the peace of mind to know that if something does need to be fixed you won’t be on a time crunch to get it done.

3. Always Have a Backup Plan

There are a few key things that should be on your backup plan before you hit the road. Have a list of backup campgrounds at the locations you plan to travel. Just in case you arrive at your campsite and they don’t have room, guess what, you have a list of the next closest campgrounds and don’t have to stress about where you will park for the night. Carry basic tools and supplies incase you need to fix things on the road. And along with that have roadside assistance ready to call in the case of an emergency. If you can’t fix it yourself, someone else will be able too!

RV travel does not have to feel unpredictable and stressful. When you take the time for intentional planning, preparation, and realistic flexibility. The trip can feel so much more manageable and fun.
